I think you're right; Anthem of the Sun is most likely what Jerry was talking about in the thing I read, (which may have been in Rolling Stone).

From the Billboard chart numbers, it seems that Workingman's Dead is the one that put them on the map after several slow sellers since their debut...

it was really a favorite locally at the time, and American Beauty was just icing on the cake, though it did have the minor hit, Truckin'...

but listen to the tapes, and notice how the crowds of '69 and '70 always cheered when they started up St. Stephen...

Everyone agrees (?) that was their most popular in-concert tune during those 2 years...
